Job Summary - CORRECTIONAL HEALTH
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) takes a leadership role in system level nursing education programs and professional development. Using expertise in education and professional development practices, the NPDS functions autonomously and in collaboration with staff, nursing leadership, Clinical Resource Nurses, faculty, and researchers to develop, implement and evaluate professional development programs that influence role competence, professional growth, and lifelong learning in a variety of practice settings. The NPDS promotes synergistic practices to achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the organization. The NPDS advances and leads educational practices based on the Harris Health System Nursing Professional Practice Model, strategic plan, and in accordance with the Association of Nursing Professional Development's Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing Practice.
As a member of the nursing leadership team, the NPDS supports professional nursing practice and empowers nurses to continuously improve in the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate, and efficient nursing care in collaboration with other healthcare disciplines. The NPDS ensures compliance with standards established by professional nursing organizations, national, state, and local regulatory agencies, and institutional policies and procedures. The NPDS mentors others, role models professionalism, and upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/specialized training/licensure:
a.Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor's degree in nursing, and a Master's degree in nursing or related field required.
b.Certification in clinical specialty (Nursing Professional Development) is to be completed within two (2) years of hire, if not held at the time of appointment.
c.Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas.
d. Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
Work experience: Five (5) years of work experience as a registered nurse required.
Management experience: Two (2) years related education or leadership experience is required.
