Must be either a 3rd or 4th semester nursing student, or medical assistant program and currently attending school. Under the supervision of an RN, performs basic care activities, including, blood draws, placing patients on monitors, performing EKG. Answers phone, makes calls for physicians. Initiates calls for transfers at providers request. Stock supplies in rooms, cleans and turns over rooms after patient leaves.

Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age. Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including inserting saline lock, and drawing blood, monitoring vital signs, possibly taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.  Provides patient care that meets the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient within the scope of practice for a certified nursing assistant/ nursing assistant.  Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.  Assists with patient admissions, discharges and transfers.  Provides morning care which may include bed bath, shower, whirlpool, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patients, changing bed linen, cleaning over bed table and bedside stand, straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the shift.  Provides evening care which includes hands/ face washing as needed, oral hygiene, back rubs, peri-care, refreshing linen, cleaning over bed tables, straightening room, and other general care as needed.  Provides general nursing assistant care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, applying/ utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bedpan, commode and ambulating patients.  Prepares patients for meals, serves and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patients is necessary.  Answers patients call lights, anticipates patient's needs and makes rounds of assigned patients. Answers the phone, calls consults for the providers, and initiates transfer calls at provider request and fills out MOT.  Transports patients to various departments for ordered tests/ procedures.  Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure and intake-output.  Reports patient complain of pain to supervising LPN/ RN.  Observes patients mental and physical conditions, reports any changes to supervising RN.  Communicates in a clear and concise manner to LPNs, RNs, and medical staff.

Minimum Education
High School diploma, GED or equivalent required.
Graduate of a Registered Nurse program from a college or university and scheduled to sit for NCLEX exam within 90 days of employment application.

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Handle with Care are both required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
