Full Time Chaplain/Bereavement Coordinator at St. Louis Children's Hospital (BJC HealthCare)- St. Louis, MO
Purpose of the Position:
To support the spiritual and cultural needs of our patients, families, and staff
To coordinate a comprehensive bereavement program for families whose child has died at SLCH.
To coordinate and support bi-annual hospital memorial services and periodic medical unit memorial events.
To provide bereavement support to unit bereavement coordinators throughout the hospital.
Provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff.
Provide grief/bereavement orientation to new employees and on medical units as requested.
Provide support for traumas, deaths, and other critical events.
Coordinate special services and events as requested by leadership.
Coordinate monthly mailings and follow-up phone calls to families who have lost a child at SLCH.
Provide a point of contact for the bereavement program to the community.
Prepare monthly statistics and provide reports as required by the SLCH Foundation et al.
Assist individual units in coordinating services, lead bi-monthly SLCH bereavement coordinator meetings, and secure necessary bereavement supplies.
Participate in quality initiatives as assigned.
Master’s Degree in Pastoral/Theological field of study
Completion of 4 certified units of Clinical Pastoral Education
Board Certified Chaplain or eligible for certification
Demonstrated knowledge of the bereavement process along with the ability to provideongoing spiritual support to patients, families and staff.
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Presentation skills and training experience preferred
Demonstrated experience in organizing and evaluating programs.
Experience in use of EPIC and Microsoft Office apps preferred

Provides spiritual care, short term counseling, worship leadership, education and other religious support to patients, families and staff as members of the interdisciplinary care team.
Provides direct spiritual care to patients and families.
Provides consultation to other members of the care team regarding spiritual issues and resources in patient and family care and regarding ethics.
Provides direct pastoral care to staff and physicians, as needed, complementing staff support services provided by others.
Contributes to the field of professional spiritual care by conducting and reporting research, publishing and providing workshops at professional meetings.
