Job Summary
Responsible for providing comprehensive care at an advanced practice level to children and their families through assessment, treatment clinical management, ordering/or interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, teaching, and participating/conducting research. Works collaboratively with physician partners, administration, nursing, and health care teams to develop and implement clinical program needs.
Job Specific Duties
Acts as a resource for patients, families, staff, or community groups providing education and emotional support.
Develops, implements, evaluates, monitors, manages, and modifies a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
Performs comprehensive and problem focused history and physician examinations.
Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care across departments and promoting optimal patient outcomes.
Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests, radiological studies, and consultations.
Participates in quality improvement programs.
Performs procedures as demonstrated through competency.
Accountable for maintaining current expertise and skills in order to facilitate a high quality of clinical performance and to promote professional growth.
Orders and/or prescribes non controlled substances for inpatients/outpatients.
Participates in other necessary activities associated with patient care (writing daily progress notes, coordinating clinical care, discharge planning, etc.).
Writes orders, monitors/alters drug therapies, and performs other procedures with education and experience within established protocol in collaborative relationship with a Physician(s).
Provides patient information and effectively completes the hand off process at shift change and patient reassignments.
Recognizes need for physician consultation and guidance as indicated within experience and scope of practice .
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
APRN State of Florida Licensure - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Center (ANCC), Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) or National Certification Corporation (NCC).
American Heart Association BLS Maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
American Heart Association ACLS Required as per department
Neonatal Resuscitation Program required for NICU
American Heart Association PALS Required as per department
Crisis Prevention Institute Required as per department within 7 days of hire date
Level II Background Check If required for this position or department
Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification required for PICU, CICU and Neurocritical Care Units.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification preferred for inpatient areas.
Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patient's response to care.
Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
