JOB SUMMARY:
The Telephone Triage Nurse (TTN) is responsible for providing safe, appropriate, and timely evaluation of patient symptoms via telephone. The TTN utilizes clinical experience, knowledge, skills and sound judgment in identifying the nature and urgency of patient health care needs. Telephone triage interactions may require assessment, patient education, and crisis intervention. The TTN properly applies standard protocols and reliable tools or decision-support tool algorithm and directs the caller to the appropriate level of care or service. The TTN facilitates referrals to primary providers, specialists, health care facilities, community or other resources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. BSN preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed to practice professional nursing in Texas. Related specialty certification required within two years of employment.
Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
Other certificates as required by unit/service.
Work Experience: Three (3) years of nursing experience
Equipment Operated: Office equipment related to job duties.

Above Average Verbal (Heavy Public Contact); Bilingual Skills Not Required but are preferred; Writing /Composing
Customer service focused/oriented, superior nursing process skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, pleasant telephone voice, ability to answer incoming calls and keep encounter patient/client-focused; uses excellent hearing and listening skills to receive detailed information; works well as a team member; effective with minimum supervision.
