The RN, Deputy Chief of Nursing Service executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. The Deputy Chief Nursing Service is responsible for administrative functions of their assigned nursing units/programs and functions as an administrator, educator, and consultant utilizing management theory in collaboration with Patient Care Service and other services. Candidates must establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relate effectively with customers, families, and the community as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels. The RN, Deputy Chief of Nursing Service will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to, the following: Providing leadership and direct supervision for units/programs assigned as a service chief. Community Living Centers, Home Based Primary Care Program. Chairing major facility committees assigned. Utilizing data to identify trends and early intervention; formulates follow up plans with the services managers/supervisors, other services chiefs, and Executive Leadership as necessary. Collaborating with peers/service chiefs to design, implement and refine interdisciplinary programs within the service and health care system. Assessing and recommending the allocation of human and material resources, determining staffing levels using NHPPD or other models in areas not yet under NHPPD, managing overtime and plays a significant role in the recruitment and retention of nursing staff. Ensuring competency assessments are completed on each nursing employee within their chain of command annually. Substantial and continuing responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling service-wide infrastructure issues which include overall operation of the service, responding to internal and external communications, maintaining knowledge of and communicating standards of nursing practice and patient care, and developing systems to enhance overall operations and communications within the service. Developing and refining medical center and service policies to meet the needs of the health care system. Ensuring resources and processes are in place for continued accreditation readiness and participating in rounds to survey nursing units. Maintaining content of professional documents such as functional statements advance practice nurses, registered nurses for procedures beyond basic education, and ensuring licensed and unlicensed staff practice within scope of care and practice for each nursing unit. Developing and managing of an annual budget for the areas assigned. Serving as an Equipment Inventory Listing (EIL) official for items assigned. Drafting and preparing professional reports. Providing oversight for nursing orientation and nursing education; works collaboratively with the Deputy Chief Staff Development/Education Service to facilitate educational programs. Assessing, planning, and evaluating the processes and daily operations of the units assigned and their staff development.
