The inpatient Medical Oncology Hematology Telemetry Unit Nurse administers prescribed therapies using appropriate judgment; evaluation of therapies is persistent and timely. The primary purpose of the Inpatient Medical Oncology Hematology RN is to demonstrate proficiency in practice based on conscious, deliberate planning and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex patient situations on the assigned unit where conditions and treatment are normally of noncritical nature. Other major duties include: Patient education, electrocardiogram, intravenous access and pump management, tube feeding, use of ceiling lifts. Care of the patients tracheostomies, telemetry cardiac monitoring glucometer management, verification of informed consent, wound care and management, pulse oximetry, and following appropriate respiratory isolation standards. Conduct time-out with all disciplines doing procedures at the beside e.g. chest tube and central line insertion. Effectively functions independently as the Charge Nurse in an assignment managing the care of a group of patients and caregivers. Demonstrates and/or verbalizes correct responses to emergencies, manages complex patient situations and initiates effective action in emergencies. This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule of assignments, as this is a 24/7 hospital. Work Schedule: Shifts are self-scheduled based on the need of the Unit. Monday - Sunday 7:30-4:30pm, Alternate weekends and alternate holidays. Additional shifts will be discussed during interview.
