The Richmond VA Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse Dialysis RN to be a member of the Nursing Service Team. The RN is responsible and accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran patient population. The Dialysis Staff Nurse includes responsibility for all dialysis /nursing activities of the acute and chronic end stage renal disease patient. The RN will report directly to the Nurse Manager for Dialysis. The incumbent is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing direct patient care. This nurse possesses specialized knowledge and skills regarding the treatment of patients with acute and chronic renal failure in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. He/she possesses the ability to perform hemodialysis, critical care dialysis treatments, CRRT, Plasmapheresis, home hemodialysis and infusion therapies. Other essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide a full range of nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Complete initial assessments of patient conditions and response to treatment. Assess patient learning needs, learning preference and readiness to learn; develop and implement a plan to meet needs and instruct patient and families. Promote discharge planning and continuity of care through developing an individualized plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family and health care team. Administer prescribed therapies using appropriate judgement. Accurately document in the medical record patient findings, assessments and care provided. Administer medication in accordance with established procedures/policy. Follow restraint seclusion procedure. Work Schedule: Monday-Saturday, 10am- 6:30 pm, rotating tours, On call after hours. Management reserves the right to determine and/or change the tour of duty.
