The Registered Nurse will work in the Medical/Surgical Unit. As a staff nurse on a Medical/Surgical Unit, you will manage the care of patients with complex and chronic nursing care needs. You will use Evidenced Based Practice to guide and direct others who provide care to include; assessing the patients response to invasive procedures, incisional care/dressing changes, cardiac, hemodynamic, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, psychosocial, neurological, pulmonary toilet, pain management and electrolyte alterations. You will also assess and maintain a safe and high-quality environment. You will demonstrate proficiency in the pre/post procedure care and the use of unit specific equipment, such as, SCD's, PCA pumps, Bucks Traction and pacemakers both temporary and internal/external. You will demonstrate competency in the care of patients with NG tubes, small bore feeding tubes, IV's, wound vacs, colostomies, urostomies, chest tubes, pleurovacs, Jackson-Pratts, central line and TPN/PPN nutrition. You will demonstrate proficiency in suctioning patients to include set-up and care of tracheostomies. Other essential duties include: nursing assessments, administering medications, admissions, discharge and transfer activities, patient and family teaching, developing nursing care plans, administering prescribed treatment, patient care coordination and documentation. Unit 5A is a Dedicated Education Unit that continuously collaborates with preparing our future nurses, therefore you will become a Lead Teacher and play an integral role in educating nursing students. The tour of duty may rotate to meet the needs of the unit.
