The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership and assume continuous responsibility for the development, leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center (MGVAMC) Veteran Health Education Coordinator (VHEC). The incumbent assists the Chief of Education in the oversight of education initiatives. He/she uses appropriate collaboration to accomplish assigned special programs/projects. The Veteran Health Education Coordinator RN provides leadership Responsible for the coordination of Veteran Health Education. Functions as an internal consultant in evaluating programs, resources, and services. Initiates and maintains documentation of classes offered to Veterans. Facilitates recommendations for education to improve offerings to Veterans and their families. Forecasts needs based on trends in the VA and in the community. Responsibilities of the RN include but are not limited to the following: a. Reviews educational program activities to assess the status of projects related to, but not exclusively, patient care, and recommends plans for change/improvement on the projects, when appropriate. b. Chairs the interdisciplinary Veteran Health Education Committee. The committee meets quarterly. c. Provides support to the Chief of Education and collaborates with interdisciplinary leadership in the implementation of current standards of practice for Veteran Health education. d. Submits administrative reports, as assigned, in a timely manner. e. Promotes patient-centered care throughout the organization. f. Facilitates customer service standards by showing a professional and friendly environment for all customers. g. Supports and contributes to the development of goals, objectives and standards of patient care for nursing and other allied health, and actively contributes towards attainment of the goals. h. Analyzes ethical issues and appropriate theoretical principles. i. Emphasizes and requires respect for patients' and employees' rights and confidentiality. j. Maintains confidentiality of information and principles of business integrity. k. Promotes and utilizes information systems in place to facilitate the Chief of Education's planning and management of patient education programs. l. Maintains sound fiscal management and recommends priorities for distributing resources based on program needs. m. Systematically evaluates and facilitates change in clinical practice/standards of care. n. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities. o. Ability to convey information to staff at various levels from novice to expert. p. Demonstrates familiarty with established policies and procedures and administration of the unity in accordance with the Joint Commission, other regulatory agencies, and VA policy q. Ability to articulate and interpret organizational policies and procedures to the health care team. r. Promotes evidence based clinical practice and assist staff and leadership with Quality Management and Performance Improvement programs, including evidence-based research projects. s. Takes initiative and utilizes innovative and creative approaches for change practice based on performance improvement findings and evidence based practice. t. This RN possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting within these assignments. u. Follows approved numbered memorandums, policies, protocols and procedures as appropriate. v. Other duties, within the scope of licensure, as assigned by Chief of Education Service Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm Telework: Eligible Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required This position is eligible to telework on an as needed basis, determined by the needs of the service. This position is not approved to be a 100% Virtual/Remote position. Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 11 paid Federal holidays per year. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
