Nurses Defining Medicine - 3 South - The Cardiovascular Center
The nurses that are part of the team on 3South - The Cardiovascular Center (3South) of the George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) are Defining Medicine through their capacity to think, research, discover, evaluate, teach, learn, refine, and innovate. 3South is comprised of 44 patient beds that can support care to patients with a focus on Cardiology, Thoracic, Vascular and CT surgery, who have a variety of co-morbidities that impact their primary diagnosis, medical, and nursing plans of care. We strive to provide the highest quality nursing care for acutely ill patients who are moderately stable with an elevated risk for instability and require assessment, treatment or intervention every 1-2 hours. Our nursing team is continually refining their assessment skills and are supported by monitoring technology. We on 3South are seeking newly licensed RNs who want to work in an environment which fosters positive patient outcomes through a collaborative practice model and evidence-based nursing practice.

NURSE RESIDENCY PROGRAM-
The GW Hospital Nurse Residency Program is designed to help recent nursing graduates (interns) bridge the gap from student nurse to professional nurse during their first year of nursing practice. This is accomplished by supporting them professionally, emotionally and socially, thereby easing their transition. The Nurse Residency Program consists of a debrief, topics for discussion, guest presenters from throughout the hospital, as well as an evidence based project, and is facilitated by a Nurse Residency Coordinator. Simultaneously, new graduate nurses will be oriented into their hired nursing unit. This orientation program consists of didactic sessions, e-learning, and hands-on skills, all of which the nurse graduates can apply to the clinical area. Each intern is paired with an experienced RN preceptor in the clinical area. Thus, new graduate nurses will gain the knowledge and hands-on experience they need to provide high-quality care to their patients.
GPA of 3.0 or greater
Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a clinical instructor or professor)
Current CPR Certification by AHA or ARC
Successful completion of Driving Nursing Attributes Assessment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Provide specialized care to patients with fragile hemodynamic stability who require an increased level of nursing care and surveillance which prevents them from transitioning to a general medical unit.
Integrate a patient centered approach involving the patient and family into the plan of care.
Provide safe, competent nursing care for patients in accordance with facility policies, standards, and philosophy.

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
Passion to treat a diverse and acutely ill population:
Graduate of an NLN or AACN accredited RN program; BSN preferred
ACLS, PALS, or NRP (or obtained within three months of employment) in required specialty
DC license or eligibility
