Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics. Position Overview: Under the supervision of the Sterile Prep Coordinator, the Sterile Prep technician is responsible for the reprocessing of instrumentation of Surgery, Woman�s services, Emergency Department and all other areas utilizing sterile invasive technology.
- The Sterile Prep staff is charged with the responsibility of knowing the theory and functions of the sterilization process assuring quality controls are maintained.
- The technician must be familiar with all forms of disinfection & sterilization I.e. steam, steris, & Sterrad.
- Sterile Prep is a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation.

Department Specific Duties:
- Orients and trains new employees as appropriate
- Works closely with OR staff to insure adequate and appropriate instrumentation for surgical procedures
- Performs daily autoclave quality checks
- Disassembles, cleans, and decontaminates medical instruments, supplies, and equipment using approved disinfectants.
- Inspects instruments for damage
- Replaces any missing or broken instruments to complete trays
- Reassembles trays according to inventory lists for each tray
- Operates decontamination machinery and sterilization machinery
- Wraps and sterilizes instruments and trays
- Follow designated procedures for operation of sterilization equipment
- Logs all instruments and trays prior to sterilization
- Verifies sterilization process parameters are met for all loads
- Runs quality tests on required equipment.
Qualifications:
Position Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Vocational training
- Specialized skills
- Certifications &/or experience.
- Six months experience in a hospital setting as an instrument tech, or as a Surgical Instrument Tech.
- One year experience in a hospital setting, with knowledge of surgical instrumentation, all forms of the sterilization process and CCST Preferred.
