The University of California, Davis and UC Davis Health invite nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing.
In the ten years since its founding, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing has enjoyed significant programmatic and physical growth, supported by a dedicated community of faculty, staff, students, donors, community partners, and administrators. The School is now recognized as a leader in graduate nursing education in the University of California system and nationwide. With the School’s founding dean stepping back into a faculty position and the arrival of a new UC Davis Health (UCDH) Vice Chancellor for Human Health Sciences, the School is well poised to enter a new era of excellence. The incoming Dean will have the opportunity to guide the School into a period of progressive innovation, working with all stakeholders to ensure the School can continue to provide world-class education to students, foster a culture of vigorous research and innovative teaching by its faculty, further integrate with the rest of University of California, Davis (UC Davis) Health, and provide community members excellent care.
The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, the School of Medicine, the UC Davis Medical Center, and the UC Davis Medical Group comprise UC Davis Health. The mission of UC Davis Health is to improve lives and transform health care by providing excellent patient care, conducting groundbreaking research, fostering innovative, interprofessional education, and creating dynamic, productive partnerships with the community. With the arrival of new leadership for the university and for UC Davis Health, there is deliberate effort underway to grow, align, and integrate the academic and health science programs across all of its locations. The new Dean will oversee the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at a pivotal moment of great potential and tremendous ambition.
The Dean reports directly to the Vice Chancellor, Human Health Sciences/CEO for UC Davis Health and has a dotted line to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor (EVC). The incumbent reports to the Vice Chancellor/CEO regarding UC Davis Health strategic planning; community engagement; integration of the School’s practice, education, and research missions; and health quality initiatives and to the Provost and EVC regarding leadership of the academic unit.
In order to lead the UC Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing to new levels of success, the Dean will address the following opportunities and challenges:
Engage the community in developing and implementing a vision for the School’s next ten years;
Continued leadership to ensure a sustainable economic model for the School going forward;
Deepen the School’s relationship with UC Davis Health’s clinical enterprise, including shaping the design of the care delivery system;
Strengthen the School’s relationships with the School of Medicine and the Davis campus;
Serve as a visible advocate and champion for the School, including collaborations in both research and teaching;
Continue to foster meaningful engagement with faculty, staff, and students.
