The psychiatric APRN is an essential and important part of our multidisciplinary team! Our team includes psychologists, therapists, behavior analysts, teachers, SLP, OT, audiology, behavior specialists, nurses, and experiential learning specialists.
The APRN educates our clients and the treatment team about medication and medical related issues for each student. Our students often present with complex histories and are often taking numerous medications. Our philosophy and treatment approach combines behavioral supports and skill building with the goal of reducing the amount of medications needed when possible. The APRN is a very important consulting professional in this regard.
Responsibilities include medication management, communication with parents, consulting with previous providers, attending treatment team meetings, providing clinical leadership, assuring quality of care, protecting vulnerable students, knowledge of and support of program systems and routines, assures medication compliance, trains staff on medication administration, works to reduce medication errors, triage of residents with medical problems and managing referrals for off campus consultations. The APRN also takes on-call shifts in rotation with other APRNs.
On a daily basis, our Psychiatric APRN can be found meeting with students individually on our residential campus, discussing cases with the treatment team and communicating with parents via phone or video call. The APRN performs required psychiatric assessment upon admission and provides essential information for utilization review.
The APRN is a member of the clinical team and reports to the Executive Clinical Director. The APRN interacts with and coordinates treatment with other programs and departments. The APRN is an important advocate for the Seven Stars program and our students.
Qualifications and skills
Master’s Degree or Ph.D. (Strongly Preferred) with current licensure for independent practice in Utah as an APRN with prescriptive privileges.
Knowledge of general medical treatment of Adolescents including psychopharmacologic treatment. Exceptional skills in decision making, time management, documentation, communications and human relations are needed. In addition, the ability to maintain confidential information is required and must have excellent communication skills.
Work hours/shifts: We have immediate need for a part time practitioner with the possibility of moving to full time. Number of hours depends on census. Some flexibility in work schedule is available with approval from supervisor. Salary or hourly employee or contract provider arrangements are possible and negotiable. 20 to 25 hours per week is current average.
Required experience: One year of previous experience fulfilling APRN duties in a psychiatric setting.
Required license or certification: State of Utah Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privilege
Excellent teamwork and communications skills are required. Must be detailed oriented and complete documentation in a professional, timely and consistent manner. The APRN is often required to represent Seven Stars in a personable and professional manner. Must be able to work with anxious parents and be willing to take the time to understand each situation and empathize with families and students. We are looking for an energetic, creative, team player who also knows how to lead. The ability to give and receive constructive feedback and support others in their job duties is important.
Additional Salary Information: Pay is very competitive and negotiable. We have immediate need for part time (20 to 25 hours) per week. Full time is possible in the future. Salary or hourly employee arrangements are possible. Independent contractor arrangement is also possible.
