Work Schedule: Nights with rotation to Evenings per department needs/Every other weekend/holiday rotation
Work Type: FULL TIME (1.0 FTE) - 80 hours in 2 week pay period; 40W Overtime
Works independently and collaboratively with unit Nursing Operations Manager to coordinate the day-to-day operations of the unit. Works collaboratively with unit Nursing Operations Manager in recruitment and retention initiatives,
Performance Evaluations, Performance Improvement Plans and disciplinary actions. Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction.
Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and
unit specific Service Standards. Directly accountable to the Nursing Operations Manager.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Anticipates and coordinates staffing needs and assignments * Actively drives and facilitates patient flow with clinical team and patient placement * Communicates and coordinates patient care with the entire bedside care team, patient and family. * Accountable for nursing participation in IDTs in AM and PM/bed huddle * Ensures daily nursing practice includes activities to achieve quality patient outcomes * Acts as clinical resource and mentor for staff * Facilitates and supports effective teaming * Coordinates and directs the daily patient care operations of the unit during assigned shift * Assesses staffing needs with the Operations Manager daily and completion of 6 weeks * Functions as charge nurse Ensures charge nurse assigned for 3-11 and 11-7 and patient assignment for oncoming shift is completed. Ensures code cart/narcotic count is completed as needed * Monitors and addresses patient complaints and lost belongings * Acts as a change agent. * Collaborates with Department of Education and Nurse Manager regarding orientation of new employees. * Ensures new staff are oriented appropriately and orientation paper work is completed in a timely fashion. * Completes administrative duties of clinical coordinator. * Assists with PI projects in collaboration with Operations Manager. * Evaluates and makes recommendations on staffing and personnel issues including annual performance evaluation of staff. * Promotes effective relationships by modeling the core values of the Geisinger Health Care System.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
* RN with 1 year experience in specialty area or if prior experience in specialty area, 6 months required in dept or at discretion of the Operations Manager. * Education: a. Current Pa RN License b. BLS certification required c. ACLS and/or PALS required as appropriate for specialty areas d. Specialty certifications preferred e. BSN required.
