Baystate Health, an Award–winning healthcare system and home of the University of Massachusetts Medical School-Baystate, is searching for an experienced physician to join Baystate Health’s Home Health and Hospice as the Hospice Medical Director.

Baystate Hospice offers comfort and dignity at the end of life when a cure is no longer possible and life expectancy is thought to be six months or less. Hospice services include skilled nursing care, advanced pain management and symptom control, pharmacy services, medical supplies and equipment, specialized physician oversight of plan of care, spiritual Care, volunteer support, massage therapy, hospice aides to help with personal care, medical social work, bereavement support services, nutrition counseling, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, acute care hospitalization, and respite care.

Qualifications: Ideal candidates will have 5 years of experience in a hospice/palliative care setting and either board certified in hospice/palliative care, or board certified in internal medicine with prior hospice/palliative care experience. Candidates who are certified as hospice medical director will take priority. Collaborative candidates who are driven by quality, safety, patient satisfaction, and value are desired.
Responsibilities: The medical director/team physician has overall responsibility for medical direction of the care and treatment of patients and their families rendered by the hospice and palliative care teams and provides consultation and collaboration with the patient's attending physician. The medical director provides medical management of patients, physician direction and guidance to the hospice/palliative and home care programs, its staff and volunteers to assure the maintenance of quality standards of care for patients and families. The medical director will also serve as a resource to educate practicing physicians and others engaged in healthcare services regarding the hospice/palliative program.
