The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital includes thirteen Pediatric Hematologists/Oncologists and six Ph.D. research faculty. We provide multidisciplinary, comprehensive clinical care. Our physicians are included in the list of Best Doctors in America and we are highly ranked by US News and World Report. Our staff participates in clinical trials through the Children's Oncology Group (COG), the Pediatric Oncology Experimental Therapeutics Investigators' Consortium (POETIC), and the Neuroblastoma and Medulloblastoma Translational Research Consortium (NMTRC).
Research in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is conducted by internationally renowned physician-scientists and projects are funded by the National Institutes of Health and various philanthropic organizations. We have an ACGME-accredited fellowship program.
The clinical and research activities of the Division are supported by the Four Diamonds. The Four Diamonds Pediatric Cancer Research Institute at Penn State College of Medicine was established through the Four Diamonds Endowment. This position is annually funded by Four Diamonds.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.
The NP functions as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team and provides a wide range of patient services to Pediatric Hematology/Oncology patients across the continuum of care. Responsibilities include:
Assessing the physical and psychosocial status of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
Performing procedures such as bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, lumbar puncture and intrathecal chemotherapy administration
Working with the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology physicians and nurses in formulating treatment plans.
Writing prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with practice protocols.
Requesting written consultation from physicians and other health care professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
Conducting or participating in multidisciplinary rounds and ensuring appropriate and quality care for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology patients.
Master’s Degree in Nursing with clinical specialization required.
Two years of work experience as a RN required.
Current licensed to practice as a CRNP by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required.
Must have demonstrated effective skills in consultation.
Certification as an NP in the area of practice specialization is preferred.
Background in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology desired
Experience in the area of Pediatric Hematology and/or Oncology is preferred.
