The Risk Management Director is responsible for the facility’s risk management activities, which include, but may not be limited to managing claims against the facility, interfacing with defense legal counsel, administering the risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data conducting the risk management educational programs, complying with risk management related to standards by TJC and with the objective of maintaining patient safety, enhancing quality care and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility. This individual is responsible for reviewing and formulating policy or organizational changes and making recommendations for final approval by senior management.
Provides planning and leadership to medical staff office, working closely with physician leadership and attends medical staff committee meetings.
Minimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):
BS Degree in Nursing, or Health administration, clinical specialty or other related field.
Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire.
Minimum three years in experience in risk management, preferably in healthcare, or at least 5 years in healthcare leadership experience.
Experience as a manager of a hospital department is desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of the daily operations of risk management and the Medical Staff Office.
Proficient at Microsoft Office, particularly using Excel and document management skills to support teaching, recordkeeping and communication
Knowledge of medical-legal issues, laws, regulatory agency requirements, and standards preferred.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding the Medical Staff, and other sensitive personal/professional information.
